Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
It is 5½ years course, 4.5 year academic course & 1 year rotation internship training. The BAMS program enables the learners to be competent, capable to providing Ayurveda health services in Nepal, identifying and managing health institutions. After completion of this course, doctors will have integrated knowledge of Ayurveda, Allopathy, Yoga, Naturopathy etc. BAMS is equivalent to the Graduate in the related field.
Eligibility :
Candidates for admission to Ayurved(BAMS) Course should have passed Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the HSEB an equivalent examination and Certificate level in Ayurbed passed also can apply. Minimum of 50% marks in Biology , Physics & Chemistry. Candidate should have passed entrance exam for BAMS of respectiive University.
Career Opportunities:
- An Ayurvedic practitioner can get employment as medical officer/doctor at government and private Ayurvedic hospitals.
- One can also start his/ her own practice or open own retail shop of Ayurveda medicines.
- Ayurvedic doctors can work industries engaged in Ayurvedic preparations.
- Opportunity for further studies such as MD, MS, MPH, PHD etc.
- After completing the course the person will be able to work in Government as well as private hospitals and clinics, institutes, NGOs, INGO’s etc.

- Nation Ayurveda Research Centre Nepal is established at the Kirtipur for Ayurvedic research activity in Nepal.
BAMS Colleges In Nepal
- Ayurbed Campus, Kritipur, affiliated to TU has 15 seats for Scholarship & 5 seats for donation basis.
- National Ayurved College, Birgunj, affiliated to TU has 3 seats for scholarship(MOE) and 27 seats for donation basis.
- Mithila Ayurved College, Janakpur affiliated to Nepal Shansskrit University has 4 seats for Scholarship(MOE) & 36 Seats for donation basis.
